What is CrossFit all about?

Many people ask me this question when trying to learn more about what we do here at CrossFit HomeBase and I always find myself changing my answer. Some think there’s an easy definition to explain CrossFit, sure we can say that it’s constantly varied, functional movements done at high intensity; but for anyone that belongs to a CrossFit community they know its much more than a fitness program.

We have all heard CrossFit is “hard” and that’s the most common reason for not trying it. However, all the best things in life aren’t easy. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. In fact, it’s often one of the best reasons you should.

CrossFit is far removed from the fitness clubs, zumba, pilates and jazzercise, we push the limits of human performace by design, because the only way to reach desired results is to increase our individual intensity level. Shortening the gap to our overall goal to health and wellness and in turn achieve a greater general physical preparedness for daily life and the obstacles that stand in the way.

CrossFit takes people out of their comfort zone and routine, it shows what the human body can really do when there is a desire.

Once out of the comfort zone, the community is the glue that holds it all together. The power of a support group enables individuals to reach new heights because of all the people that just became your biggest fans. We always give more of ourselves in the presence of others, so embrace the community and ride the wave.

Community is defined as groups of people with enhanced social connections mutually engaged in an activity or common interest or pursuit. The social support we gain from the community is paramont when faced with new challenges, it increases the capacity to work harder and leads to a desired outcome much quicker.

The community is in place to support each other during opportunities that exist to make positive changes in one’s life. The integration of a social network and a designed fitness program can only increase positive changes in the body, mind and spirit; helping to create more healthy habits and keeping individuals accountable of their own progress.

Together, We spread information about exercise, nutrition, recipes, supplements, life and any other pertinent facts to help us along our journey of self-betterment. We can’t do this alone, so we leave our egos at the door, push our limits and learn from others.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that change is inevitable once you step inside a CrossFit gym; whether you like it or not . These changes are meant for you to grow and learn not just inside the CrossFit world but in your life as well. We all hit obstacles and struggles, big or small it happens; Managing to adapt and overcome takes great courage and effort.

How you deal with growth, change and struggle is what defines you as a person. So take the road less travelled, experience new highs, meet great people and feel the rush of accomplishment when done with a WOD!
